Similan Diving Safari on MV Oktavia
The great thing about a Similan diving safari on MV Oktavia is you get even more days diving at the Similan Islands, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and world famous Richelieu Rock. MV Oktavia Similan liveaboard offers a longer 5 day 5 night trip. More dives and more time on the fabulous Similan Island beaches than most other Similan diving safaris.
If you don’t have time for the full 5 day trip, clever scheduling by MV Oktavia allows you to join either the first portion of the safari for a 2 day 2 night trip diving in the Similan Islands or you can join the last 3 days of the safari as the liveaboard heads north to visit Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.
MV Oktavia is a wooden hulled liveaboard, in fact one of the largest wooden boats currently operating in the Similan Islands. At 30m in length and over 7m beam Oktavia is one of the most stable dive platforms too. The boat is well maintained, very well run and has an excellent safety record.
The boat takes a maximum of 21 divers which is not a lot really considering her size. The cabins are spacious and comfortable and come either as twin bunk or double bed configurations. There are also two master cabins on the top deck for that extra touch of luxury. There is plenty of room on board, a very spacious sun deck and ample dining area.
MV Oktavia is a great boat for conducting PADI courses, whether it be the Open Water or Advanced Open Water course all way up to Divemaster. Enriched Air Nitrox is available on board too.
Similan Snorkeling on MV Oktavia
MV Oktavia, as well as being an excellent dive boat is also one of the few Similan diving safaris that offers a great program for snorkelers. As much care and attention is paid to snorkeling as towards the scuba diving. Apart from a couple of sites that aren’t suitable for snorkeling, whenever a dive is scheduled so too is snorkeling.
Snorkeling is conducted with an experienced guide along with dingy (small boat) support. Life jackets are also available for inexperienced snorkelers.
There are also plenty of beach visits from Oktavia. If conditions permit every effort is made so snorkelers and divers can get to explore the fabulous Similan Islands both at Similan Island Four and Similan Island Eight. MV Oktavia is also one of the few Similan liveaboards that visit the spectacular beach at Koh Tachai.
A Typical Similan Diving Safari
A typical Similan diving safari on MV Oktavia departs in the early evening from Tap Lamu Pier, just a few kilometres from Khao Lak in Thailand. On departure night guests will receive a thorough boat briefing, safety briefing, check into their cabins, set up equipment and have some free time for dinner and to get to know other guests on board.
MV Oktavia will spend the first two and a half days of the Similan diving safari in the Similan Islands, exploring the easier dive sites as well as a couple of beach visits. On the third day MV Oktavia starts the north stretch, firstly visiting Koh Bon.
On the fourth day there is diving at both Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock as well as a beach visit. The last day can vary but is often diving at Koh Tachai, Koh Bon and the famous Boonsung Wreck.
